Looks like Fujitsu has one-upped Hitachi in the hard-disk wars. Last week, Hitachi announced the first-ever 300 GB, 10,000 RPM drive, featuring five platters for data storage. Now Fujitsu has stepped in with a virtually identical model, minus one platter. That should mean better performance, as fewer platters means quicker data retrieval. By Gizmodo’s estimate, either 300-gig drive should be able to store approximately 60,000 MP3s worth of songs by The Platters, a.k.a. “Grandpa’s Soundtrack.”
