Nikon will debut seven Coolpix cameras at PMA 2006 next week, with three models in the midrange L series, three in the higher-end P series and two in the ultracompact S series.

The L-series (above), all of which have 2-inch LCD screens and a 3x optical zoom, includes the L2 ($250) at 6 megapixels, the L3 ($200) at 5.1 megapixels and the 4-megapixel L4 ($150). The L2 and L3 will be available in late February, with the L4 coming out in March.

The P series cranks up the performance, with both the P3 ($450) and the P4 ($400) packing 8.1 megapixels and a 3.5x optical zoom. The P3 adds built-in WiFi to the mix. Both will be available in March.

Then there’s the a S series, which shoehorns 6 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom into a slim and stylish form factor. The S5 has a 2.5-inch LCD screen, while the S6 has a 3-inch LCD screen and built-in WiFi support.
