Although there are no pictures that I can find, which is a real pity considering the subject, it seems that Power Paper, a company that specializes in developing hybrid electronics that are embeddable in paper products, has developed the ‘PowerTattoo,’ a semi-permanent tattoo that electronically transfers dyes to create body art that lasts about four weeks. The PowerTattoo “utilizes the process of iontophoresis, whereby ionized pigments are delivered into the epidermal layer of the skin.”
Despite making it easier to take cheap shots at indie rock poseurs, there are a wealth of potential uses for this process, from costuming (think of the money they could have saved on Cats!), fashion, and even advertising—what’s to stop a company from offering a subsidy for those willing to temporarily brand a corporate logo on their foreheads? (Thanks, Chad!)
