Putting Duct Tape Over a Person's Mouth Does Absolutely Nothing

Here's a video that'll shatter many a Hollywood movies: putting duct tape over somebody's mouth doesn't stop them from screaming, it doesn't make them stop talking and it definitely doesn't keep them quiet. In fact, putting duct tape over somebody's mouth does... absolutely nothing.

Kevin Nugent on YouTube was sick of all the movies that use this gag in tense scenes and sought to disprove it. Watch the video above because he totally did. Next time I see this in a movie, I'm going to scream out in the theater saying "HA HA. That doesn't work you fools!" (no I won't, I'll probably just snicker to myself). Anyways! Hollywood, try something different would ya? [Kevin Nugent]

For anyone saying "wrap it around their head" or "just stick a sock in their mouth", the MythBusters mentioned it in passing while doing their first Duck Tape episode, getting duck tape wet (spit) causes a film to form over the adhesive, rendering it basically useless. So it will stick to your face (unless you sweat) but it won't stick to your lips for very long since they are moist, and will ruin the adhesive. So unless you, say, wrap their entire head in duck tape, like side to side to actually keep their mouth shut, then yeah, it probably won't work very well, and if so, not for long.
