OK, this is pretty cool. There's going to be an organized Logan's Run chase this weekend in the streets of San Francisco. Some folks will be designated Runners, while others will be designated Sandmen, hunting them down.
Gabe Smedresman and Catherine Herdlick of The Multiverse Council have concocted a huge public event, based on both the original novel and the 1976 film. The whole idea is just incredibly inspired. According to the official Facebook, this is how it's all going to go down:
This February, The Multiverse Council (Gabe and Catherine) brings you Logan's Run, brought to life as an epic live-action street game in the alleys of San Francisco.
When your lifeclock turns black, will you accede to the mandatory euthanization ritual of Carrousel, or will you run? Search the corners and nooks of the City for the secret of Sanctuary. Discover strange sights and hidden peoples, some trustworthy — some not — all while evading ruthless squads of Sandmen searching for Runners at every turn.
This is a street game in the style of Journey To The End of The Night. There will be 1-2 miles of walking involved: so wear comfortable shoes. There may be brief periods of running and chasing, but players of all levels of athletic ability will enjoy themselves.
RUNNERS: Meet at 6:30pm sharp at the center of Yerba Buena Gardens for your welcome to the City.
SANDMEN: Meet at 6:00pm sharp at the center of Yerba Buena Gardens for your briefing with Central CPU.
Tickets are REQUIRED: purchase them before the event.
The game will end between 9 and 9:30pm, somewhere in the Dogpatch. An afterparty will follow.
You can purchase tickets here. And here is the life-clock replica that everyone will be wearing, just amazing.
