When Hunter Moore shut down his notorious revenge-porn website, Is Anyone Up, and sold the domain to an anti-bullying website, the whole world was surprised. Altruism? Maybe not: The Village Voice says Moore is being investigated for internet crimes by the FBI.
What's more, he reportedly threatened to burn down the paper's headquarters if they told anyone the about the FBI's investigation into his site:
Honestly, I will be fucking furious, and I will burn down fucking The Village Voice headquarters if you fucking write anything saying I have an FBI investigation."
That's awfully suspicious considering Moore's always denied doing anything wrong. He says that he never cooperated with hackers and that the nude photo submissions he posted on Is Anything Up always came from individuals who wanted to get back at their exes.
Hackers definitely submitted photos, but Moore says he never posted them. Furthermore, he says he's cooperated with authorities all along, and that law enforcement had nothing on him. But he's made enough contradictory statements along the way that something's definitely up.
According to the Voice, Moore might have been in more hot water than he let on when he decided to sell his domain to Bullyville.com:
The Voice has learned that the FBI's Los Angeles Internet Crime division has been actively investigating Hunter Moore and Is Anyone Up for months, according to four people who say they've been interviewed by the FBI about his now-shuttered site. The case's focus, according to those familiar with the investigation, was Moore's possible connection to a hacker who has repeatedly broken into the inboxes of countless victims, rifled through their attachments, and submitted the accompanying nudes to Is Anyone Up. (A Los Angeles FBI spokesperson would not confirm or deny such an investigation.)
Moore confirms he's spoken to the FBI, but he doesn't explicitly say he's being investigated. The mere mention of an investigation makes him so furious, that it really makes you wonder: Did Hunter Moore really shut down his site because he was over looking at revenge porn? More importantly: What does Hunter Moore have to hide? [Village Voice]
