If you find yourself in the other camp of the RFID “controversy”, then you might be interested to learn that Wireless Dynamics has developed the first RFID Reader/Writer SD card. Any device with an SD expansion slot can now read and write to RFID tags, which means a great deal for the future of all the industries RFID is sure to touch. The SDiD Card as its called will allow smartphones and PDAs to read RFID info and send it along to whatever database awaits, using whatever networking technology your device supports. The card also supports NFC (Near Field Communication) which is used for contactless identification and transactions (think EZPass). It’s currently in pre-production, but it should be coming along now soon. Suffice to say, thanks to Wal-Mart and the Book of Revelation, we’ll be seeing RFID in plenty of facets of our lives soon enough.
