Thus far, the presence of 3D in movies has had a dubious effect. Directors tend to use it to create cheap jump-in-your-seat moments or shower the audience in virtual gore. But Sadako 3D, the latest installment in the Ringu film series may manage to use the technology to a genuinely creepy end. After all, Sadako was scary enough when she was crawling out of other people's TV sets. Imagine how unnerving it will be to see her climb toward you from a movie screen?

Sadako's home release will be out in May, but this might be a good excuse for theaters to bring 3D to the midnight movie circuit.
