Yvonne Craig, who originated the role of Barbara Gordon in the 1960s Batman show, passed away Monday night at the age of 78.

Craig’s family announced that she passed away due to breast cancer that had spread to her liver. She was in her home in Pacific Palisades, CA.

In her long career, Craig appeared on The Man from UNCLE, The Wild Wild West, and The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. But her most memorable roles would be in Batman and Star Trek. Craig joined Batman in its 1967-1968 season, doing all her own stunts and motorcycle riding as Batgirl.

She also secured a place in pop culture history as an Orion slave girl named Marta in the original Star Trek episode “Whom Gods Destroy.” She, like so many, wanted to kill Captain Kirk. The green Orions are infamous in Star Trek lore now.

Craig published a memoir in 200o titled From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, and her nephews, Todd and Christopher.
