Robert A. Heinlein's novel The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress is a seminal libertarian text, and Heinlein inspired many people to become libertarians. But Heinlein's own views were more varied, and his work dabbles in many different political philosophies. [Mises.org]
You know what? This, all these arguments in the threads below, is why I cannot get into politics. I like guns, gay rights, composting for fertilizer and personal responsibility. Am I therefore a republican democratic green libertarian? No! Fraking politics always insist you stick yourself into a box and slap a label on it. Well, screw that. All the parties have good ideas and all the parties are full of pony poop. I want a socially responsable government that respects me and leaves me alone while at the same time holding me accountable for my actions. And I want them to be honest and hard working and inexpensive.
And I want a unicorn.
