The robot unemployement lines in Korea may soon be diminishing, as the Korean government has implemented a program in which robots will be “hired” to serve double-duty as security guards and customer service representatives at post offices. The security version will fire nets at after-hours intruders, while the customer service variety will entertain customers with audiovisual presentations of an unknown nature. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the robots will actually be responsible for selling stamps and the like—sadly, the cruel stereotypes of robots as lazy, good-for-nothing drunks and thieves still hold true in some countries.
