Now we’ll never know what disaster blockbuster director Roland Emmerich can do with 1/20th his usual budget. His $5 million “found footage” alien movie The Zone has been canceled — a week before shooting was supposed to start.
THR is reporting that the shaky cam Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity type “found footage” movie The Zone has been officially been canceled, and director Emmerich is no longer a part of the production.
Why did this happen? THR speculates that “One, the found-footage trope is becoming overplayed, and two, Zone would have been released a scant weeks after another found-footage sci-fi movie.” Let’s hope this frees Emmerich up to help make 2013.
