The word on the street (if the street were Nihon Keizai Shimbun) is that iRiver Japan is planning a new flash-based portable MP3/WMA player with a 2GB capacity. This makes plenty of sense to me — iRiver’s parent company, Reigncom, is also a distributor of Samsung flash memory. Nihon Keizai Shimbun expects the product (whatever it may be called) to be announced CES in January 2005. Since there’s not much else to report on, here’s a piece of iRiver info to impress your friends: as of July 2004, the company had a 57% portable audio player market share in their home country, (South, duh) Korea.
