Holy Jesus, this is what I want for Christmas: A new Xbox 360 controller with a d-pad that doesn’t suck. (Like the FightPad here, but inside the official controller.) Joystiq hears Microsoft’s making it happen for Christmas.

Specifically, on this controller, “when one rotates the d-pad ninety degrees on this new controller, it’ll raise up about a quarter of an inch — a modification apparently revealed to be targeted at fighting game fans.” One possibility is that it’ll be a repackaged version of the limited edition controller for Evo Pro 2009, which had a modified d-pad.
So, uh, why didn’t they package this inside of the redesigned Xbox 360? Makes it seem like it’s going to be a separate purchase, instead of a wholesale replacement of Microsoft’s current Xbox 360 controller. [Joystiq]
