Samsung is officially in the open wireless earbuds game, but maybe not totally in the way you were expecting. The Galaxy Buds On are the company’s first pair of clip-on-style earbuds, and they look similar to pairs from companies like Shokz, which makes solid options like the OpenDots 2. Unfortunately for most people reading this, they aren’t launching in the U.S. quite yet—South Korea only.
While the Galaxy Buds On leaked previously, we now have quite a bit of official info on what they’re bringing to the table. They use a “class-D amplifier,” as well as something called “TwinBoost” tech, which is being used to help beef up the bass—an area where open earbuds typically struggle.
There’s a characteristically long battery life, which Samsung advertises as 9.5 hours— these are the perks of not having active noise cancellation. For the most part, the Galaxy Buds On look pretty similar to most pairs of clip-on wireless earbuds out there, with a ball at the end of a C-shaped design. There are tap controls for controlling playback and tech that’s meant to reduce audio leakage.
There are the typical things you’d expect in any modern pair of Samsung wireless earbuds, too, like support for Galaxy AI and Gemini Live as well as head gestures for answering calls or dismissing alarms.
The price is an interesting bit here, since this is launching in South Korea for the time being; it’s hard to say what the eventual U.S. cost would be. Right now they’re 299,000 won, which works out to around $220 USD.
What I’m most interested in, though, is how they sound, but also how they feel. Clip-on wireless earbuds are just as much about the fit and the feel as they are about the sound—it’s kind of the whole point. Samsung says it plans to reveal more on Oct. 27 when the Galaxy Buds On are released in South Korea.
