You’re making your website inoperable without at least one reputable SEO tool. Think about the manual labor you have to go through – it’s a slog. If you’ve set your eyes on a few picks, and somehow, you’re thinking about whether to choose Semrush or Similarweb, you’re at the right place. After testing both, a very short takeaway is that they’re great.

However, going deeper into this Similarweb vs Semrush duel for 2026, we found quite a few differences. While Semrush is an all-in-one platform with an extraordinary reputation, Similarweb’s strength lies in competitive analysis and immaculate data delivery.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses but right now, you have no clue about them. That’s why it’s recommended that you read this Semrush vs Similarweb comparison entirely, where you’ll find out which SEO tool is better for you. We’ll dive right in – why not?!

Similarweb vs Semrush: Keyword Research

If we exclude backlinks, keywords are the most important SEO aspect of your website.

Logically, proper keyword research is paramount to success and for that, you need a powerful keyword research tool.

Do these two deliver? You can bet they do.

Similarweb

Similarweb offers two options for keyword research:

  • Analyzing a domain and its ranking keywords and opportunities
  • Analyzing a keyword and its metrics like volume, trends, clicks, SERP features, etc.

We found both options impressive. When analyzing a domain, Similarweb allowed us to add a competitor for Keyword Gap, to detect missing keywords and opportunities. This very feature also displays long-tail and low-potential keywords, which we appreciate.

You can explore the website’s organic and paid traffic, as well as use the location filter to tailor the experience to the domestic market. Another metric we love is ranking distribution, which gives you a position summary based on the ranking keywords for more insight.

In this Semrush vs Similarweb analysis, the latter also includes keyword search intent, also seen in Semrush.

It explains why users search for the given keyword (navigational, transactional, local, etc.). Similarweb also discovers question queries for your FAQs.

This helps better describe the topic and gain superior topical authority. Given its 3-year historical data (Semrush offers 12+), Similarweb also lets you explore keyword-related ads of your competitors and go way back in time.

Those who focus on PPC advertisement can greatly benefit from it.

Semrush

Moving on to Semrush, pretty much everything we said applies to this service as well. Interestingly, Similarweb is close to it regarding data delivery and level of comprehension. You can, again, explore the domain and find its ranking keywords or explore keywords.

In the latter case, Semrush will display the difficulty, global volume, CPC, search intent, trends, and more. We love the Competitive Density parameter, which goes from 0 to 1. The higher the number, the harder it will be to rank for the specific keyword.

Semrush Keyword Overview

Speaking of that, we compared Semrush vs Similarweb keyword difficulty scores.

Similarweb’s KD for “SEO Tools” was 73, with Semrush “scoring” 93% at the time of writing. Semrush is more accurate in our book, as the “SEO Tools” keyword is extremely broad, and therefore, difficult to rank for. Semrush offers more – the Keyword Magic Tool, for example.

It provides countless keyword suggestions to enhance your SEO and boost your rankings. The tool is highly customizable, so you can use language filters or set it to discover long-tail keywords for more specific terms.

Another tool we like is Keyword Strategy Builder.

Semrush Keyword Strategy Builder
© Semrush

We use this one to make plans for larger pillar posts and work our way “down” by crafting shorter, more intricate posts that “branch out” from the pillar posts. Semrush, like Similarweb, offers the Keyword Gap tool, which comes with plentiful opportunities.

This tool displays the ranking keywords of your rivals that you can capitalize on. Both support adding up to 4 rivals and allow you to find overlapping, lost, new, and other types of keywords.

Who Wins?

It’s a tough call here but we slightly prefer Semrush. Its cleaner UI and tools like Keyword Magic Tool and Keyword Strategy Builder make Semrush a mighty option for discovering keyword opportunities and skyrocketing your ranking.

However, Similarweb is VERY close, albeit, it lacks keyword difficulty accuracy and a few more “imaginative” tools from Semrush.

Perform Keyword Analysis With Semrush

Backlink Analysis & Link Building

We’ll discuss backlinks now because, as said, they’re vital for higher rankings. Keyword exploration is Semrush’s forte but let’s see if Similarweb can strike back in this category.

Semrush

Semrush comes with a link-building section where you’ll find lots of exciting features.

The Backlink Analytics tool is your basic option where you can discover the backlinks of your or competitor’s domain. Some of the backlink-related information includes:

  • Authority score
  • Referring domains
  • New/lost backlinks
  • Anchors
  • Link attributes, etc.

Semrush also displays backlink types and the top pages based on the number of referring domains.

In this Similarweb vs Semrush comparison, we enjoyed the latter’s link-building tool, which is one of the best we’ve seen. It’s a full-on CRM riddled with backlinklink prospects.

Semrush allows you to discover ideal backlink opportunities (domains) which you can contact directly through its app. For example, you can get in touch via email and request a product review, guest post, or backlink. Terms can be negotiated once you’re in touch.

Every prospect you’re tackling goes into the “In Progress” tab for easier access.

Semrush also has a Backlink Gap tool, which again, compares 4 competitors to your domain. However, instead of keywords, it shows you the domains that link to your competitors but not to your domain. You can then go back to the link-building tool and request backlinks.

Semrush comes with another tool – Backlink Audit. It examines your backlink profile and finds issues like toxic backlinks, broken backlinks, and other related problems plaguing your domain. Apart from discovering them, it gives you valuable solutions to problems.

One more thing – there’s the Disavow tool to make Google “ignore” broken links and prevent harm to your ranking.

Similarweb

Similarweb is a textbook example of how to do backlink analytics properly. With over 360 trillion links and 200M tracked domains, its backlink database is gigantic. Like Semrush, it allows you to swiftly discover the domain’s backlinks and gauge their quality.

Aspects like domain authority, follow/nofollow, and new/lost links can be discovered.

Moreover, Similarweb lets you conduct competitor analysis and compare your website to up to 4 others – Backlink Gap, you’re right! Similarweb’s appealing UI comprehensively divulges all bits of data, even offering sort of a link-building tool – a nice surprise!

Similarweb Backlink Analytics

When we reviewed Mangools, we criticized it for the lack of this tool.

However, Similarweb comes with a very similar interface, where you can see referring page titles and URLs with backlink anchors. This tool gives you a better understanding of your competition and lets you evaluate your next move for obtaining more quality backlinks.

Unfortunately, Similarweb isn’t as powerful as Semrush in this aspect. Semrush offers more valuable information and has a more capable link-building tool that lets you directly contact other domains. It also has the Backlink Audit tool, which Similarweb lacks.

Who Wins?

We prefer Semrush for backlink analytics because of its more abundant data and tools like Backlink Audit and Link-Building Tool. It’s good to know that Similarweb has a larger link database, which can be beneficial for analyzing smaller and less popular domains.

However, as Semrush is superior to Similarweb in link-building, which is one of the key SEO parameters, it’s easy to see why it takes this round.

Analyze Backlink Profile With Semrush

PPC Advertising: Similarweb vs Semrush

In a recent SpyFu vs Semrush comparison, we stated that both are capable of PPC advertising, with some of the greatest features you can get. Well, Similarweb joins the “clan” by offering in-depth market analyses that will help you grasp your competitor’s tactics.

Similarweb analyzes your competitor’s ads and their performance. It also lets you glance into their paid traffic, money spent on ads in the past few years, and much more. Applying the location filter is useful here, as you can tailor the search to your market – alas, it’s not here.

Similarweb Search Ads

Similarweb “forces” you to buy a more expensive plan to explore specific locations. In doing so, you can better take advantage of its other advertising-related tools, such as Demand Analysis and Conversion Analysis, both of which will greatly influence your level of success.

PPC advertising in Semrush is as efficient, if not more.

Having used it for months, if not years, we were constantly impressed at how capable it is of optimizing and running Google Ad campaigns. Plus even Semrush Pro offers the ability to get metrics for specific locations, making it more capable from the get-go.

Semrush Ppc Advertising Research
© Semrush

Semrush’s App Center also holds plentiful apps related to PPC advertising and research. For example, if you run ads aside from Google and instead, pick Amazon, you have a first-party app called PPC Optimizer for Amazon that you can explore.

Similarweb’s attention to the audience should be mentioned here because it lets you analyze geography, demographics, interests, and other vital factors. Knowing your audience is key to proper advertising but again, you have to pay more to squeeze all Similarweb’s juices.

Who Wins?

Semrush takes this round too, being a superior PPC advertising option in 2026. Similarweb’s more expensive plans do a wonderful job, though. But why pay extra when you can go with Semrush Pro and enjoy its splendid PPC Advertising suite?

Rank Tracking: Similarweb or Semrush?

How will you know if you’re making progress or taking baby steps without tracking?

That’s right – this Similarweb vs Semrush round discusses rank tracking, an essential SEO tool, that helps you rank higher on Google and know your position on the market.

Whether you choose Semrush or Similarweb, you can expect daily rank tracking, which is the polar opposite of Ahrefs and its weekly tracking. We always praise Semrush for its cannibalization reports, which indicate when two or more pages rank for the same keyword.

Semrush Position Tracking Gizmodo
© Semrush

Many SEO tools lack this – from Moz Pro to SE Ranking and Mangools. Not Similarweb.

In the same fashion, Similarweb detects cannibalized keywords and allows you to mitigate them by altering your content. Of course, when it comes to basics, Similarweb and Semrush are similar, displaying parameters such as:

  • Keywords with positive or negative impacts
  • Ranking distribution
  • Average position
  • Keyword search visibility, and more.
Similarweb Rank Tracking
© Similarweb

Apart from basics, both tools provide competitor analysis within their rank-tracking tools. Similarweb lets you add 10 competitors and track their rankings next to yours. There’s also the Share of Voice metric plus the option to track rankings on mobile and desktop.

Semrush can also track multiple competitors – although not 10. Similarweb can also track ad performance, which ties back to the PPC advertising aspect from earlier. A particularly handy feature is Search Ads, which informs you when someone bids on your brand’s search item.

For instance, this can be used to detect and report malicious ads that would ruin your brand’s reputation.

Who Wins?

This Similarweb vs Semrush round is a tough one.

Both providers do well and provide plenty of data to keep you up to date with the latest and hopefully greatest (positive) ranking changes. As a result, the round has no winner – it’s a tie.

Site Audits (Technical SEO)

Technical SEO usually comes down to improving your website by eliminating consistent problems and errors. To detect them, you must perform a site audit.

If you don’t know how to do that, our comprehensive site audit guide is here.

With Semrush, you won’t have to be Einstein to set yourself on a path to success. The Site Audit tool crawls your website and discovers errors for you. It also explains why and how to fix them, so yours is only to follow the steps and enjoy. There are a few other things.

Semrush Site Audit Crawl

For instance, the On-Page SEO Checker lets you examine each page and get valuable optimization advice. If you opt for the Site Audit tool, you can also discover Core Web Vitals that better describe your website’s performance.

Semrush On Page Audit
© Semrush

During our Semrush test, we had no problems discovering 4xxx errors, broken internal links, low text-to-HTML ratios, and even some images we forgot to optimize and compress. Issues were divided by their urgency, so we tackled those most pressing right away.

Similarweb has a Site Audit tool, which, on paper does the same. Apart from optimization advice, you get some interesting metrics like availability, indexability, uniqueness, discoverability, and rankability scores. Semrush doesn’t offer most of them.

Similarweb Site Audits
© Similarweb

Both tools will rank your site accordingly, assigning you a score from 0 to 100. Semrush calls this score Site Health, while Similarweb has its SEO Score. Let’s again mention the Backlink Audit tool from Semrush, which isn’t offered by Similarweb – it’s an audit tool, after all.

Similarweb’s on-page SEO is unavailable unless you pay more for it. On the contrary, Semrush offers it in the cheapest Pro plan.

Who Wins?

In general, Similarweb’s Site Audit tool is very capable but lacks some functions like the aforementioned Backlink Audit tool and on-page SEO. You have to pay on top for more “juice” from Similarweb, which is sad if you’re on a tight and inflexible budget.

That’s why Semrush is a better tool for site audits and technical SEO.

Content Marketing Features

Should you choose Semrush or Similarweb for content marketing?

Before we elaborate on why Semrush is better, let’s see what its rival has to offer.

Similarweb

Similarweb doesn’t have a dedicated content marketing toolkit that aids content creation. However, it has a few tools that “border” this feature. There’s the option to find keywords by industry, which will display popular keywords gathered from prominent websites.

In our comparison, we found the Keyword Seasonality report vital as well.

Similarweb Keyword Seasonality
© Similarweb

It showcases keyword trends, which signifies the right time to publish a page or some of your other content. This can be handy for time-limited promotions or promotions related to a specific trend that can be churned out at the right moment.

Semrush

Semrush offers more “feasible” content marketing tools that will directly aid your content creation.

The first one is Topic Research, which provides topic ideas based on the domain. Once provided with the domain, Semrush will list topic opportunities along with advised keywords and their difficulty metrics. There’s also the SEO Writing Assistant – Grammarly on steroids.

While Grammarly can be a nifty free SEO tool, this is a paid, flagship tool.

Semrush Seo Writing Assistant
© Semrush

It resembles Grammarly in a way that it fixes your grammar mistakes and optimizes your pages. However, it also optimizes them from an SEO standpoint, meaning it lets you meaningfully insert proper keywords and basically enhances various quality scores.

Originality, SEO, and readability are only some of them.

Semrush’s SEO Content Template tool is very useful. You can use it to find LSI keywords and get advice on how to cover a specific topic. For instance, it displays the average readability score for the given topic idea and the number of keywords you’ll need to tackle to cover it.

Semrush has an optional ContentShake AI tool, which provides even more topic ideas and helps your content creation tremendously. It’s a paid addition but you can try it for free.

Who Wins?

In the end, Semrush is a superior tool for content marketing and direct content creation and optimization. While Similarweb’s few tools work wonderfully, we can’t say you don’t get at least similar things in Semrush, and as you saw, much more on top.

Semrush vs Similarweb Price Comparison

Throughout the Similarweb vs Semrush duel, we haven’t mentioned their prices, and for many, that’s a crucial factor for decision-making. Which SEO tool is more affordable, Similarweb or Semrush?

Let us analyze their plans and pricing.

Semrush Prices

You often hear reviewers criticizing Semrush and its prices. Truthfully, it’s not cheap but some SEO tools cost more – Similarweb, for example. Before we examine it, let us go through Semrush’s subscription plans and see how much you’ll pay for each.

Semrush New Price Annual
© Semrush

Pro and Guru plans are the most popular and they cost $117.33/mo and 208.33/mo respectively. Keep in mind these are their annual variants, so expect to pay upfront for an entire year. The Pro plan is an excellent value because it allows for 5 projects.

It also tracks 500 keywords and includes all the vital Semrush tools we discussed. However, the Guru plan is much better, as it also includes content marketing, longer historical data, multi-location, and multi-device tracking, 15 projects, and 1,500 keywords to track.

The Business plan at $416.66/mo is a beast.

You get 40 projects, 5,000 keywords to track, and metrics like Share of Voice, PLA analytics, and more. Semrush also offers monthly plans but they’re 17% more expensive. If you want the best price-to-performance ratio, choose Guru – if not, Pro will do the job.

Semrush has a free plan too, alas, with numerous limitations and the lack of more advanced metrics. There’s a 14-day free trial for the Pro plan plus a 7-day refund policy if you’re unimpressed.

Get the Best Price on Semrush

Similarweb Prices

Similarweb starts at $125/mo for the Starter plan. You also get the Professional plan at $333/mo and these two are aimed at individuals and start-ups according to Similarweb’s “categorization”. Like Semrush, Similarweb’s plans are for a single user – no multiple user seats.

Similarweb Price
© Similarweb

Semrush lets you buy them additionally, while Similarweb includes business plans.

Both are, however, custom plans, which means you have to request a quota and get the price. The Professional plan is obviously the best “individual” plan but it still doesn’t quite pack a punch compared to even Semrush’s Guru plan, which costs way less.

To make up for this, Similarweb includes add-ons. They, as expected cost more. Sadly, Similarweb “hides” some of the most important features here, such as Brand Protection and Rank Tracker, which is in the “Search Intelligence” add-on that costs more.

The good news is that you can request a demo for each add-on and try it out before buying it. The bad news is that you MUST buy the demo to use it in the long run. Instead of 14 days, Similarweb’s free trial is 7 days and there’s no refund policy, so every purchase is definitive.

That’s not the case with SE Ranking, a rival that has a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Who Wins?

Neither of the two SEO tools is particularly affordable but Semrush comes out on top as the least expensive option. With its generous 2-week free trial, a free version, and a refund policy, you’ll feel safer and more confident to try it instead of Similarweb.

Customer Support

You have plenty to be excited about whether you choose Similarweb or Semrush.

Their customer support teams are there for you 24/7 and you can get in touch with them via live chat. Conversely, you can also use email if you’re too shy. Both services respond fairly quickly and you usually won’t have to wait for more than a few hours.

If you run into problems, both services have rich on-site help resources, where you’ll find FAQs and in-depth guides. In most cases, direct contact isn’t even needed. If you’re stuck, simply refer to the Help Center and you’ll find what you need in no more than 5 minutes.

Who Wins?

There’s no winner of this round – it’s a draw this time.

Conclusion: Semrush Is Better Than Similarweb

At the end of the day, we must be 101% honest and say that Similarweb and Semrush are phenomenal.

During our Semrush vs Similarweb 2026 comparison, we enjoyed both thoroughly. While Semrush is an all-arounder, Similarweb’s capabilities are dangerously close to it, and if the company sticks to this route of self-improvement, it’ll give Semrush a run for its money.

As things stand, Semrush is better than Similarweb, while also costing less.

This is a deadly combination because you get a better product and save your budget from decimation. Semrush is better for keyword research and link-building. We also found it more suitable for content marketing and comprehensive site audits which are equally important.

Similarweb is held back by numerous features locked behind the paywall. Yes, you can make Similarweb nearly as good as Semrush but you’ll need more cash. This goes full circle back to our primary conclusion; why pay more when you can simply get Semrush and be done?

Semrush is today’s winner and our absolute favorite of the two.
