Sharp’s Quick Release Screws

LIAM "THE INTERN" MCNULTY

Reading time 1 minute

You’re probably looking at that image on the right and thinking, “…uhh….” Well, I’d like everyone to know that I translated that image. Yes, I employed my superior Paint Shop Pro skills, took out the Japanese text, and replaced it with the English text that would fit in its place. And I did it without using any lens flares.

This image was in Japanese because it’s coming from Sharp, who has for some reason decided they don’t really like screwdrivers. As part of Sharp’s international “screw screws” campaign, they’ve developed some “Easy Release Screws,” which when heated to 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit for normal people), will have a special washer section expand, allowing for easy removal of the screw, (if you’re a robot with super-heated hands, of course).

One of the primary applications of the screws will be appliances; recycling them requires dissasembly, which requires manual labor. With these new screws, machines could easily take apart a TV in a tenth (as Sharp estimates) of the time it takes a mere human.
