Mildly shopped for colour correction & contrast (no mention if that was allowed or not). Just some Habaneros from my back yard.

I wanted to create a heart-shaped shadow and a romantic-looking image with things that I could reach from my office chair. I popped off my favorite ring (pink tourmaline) and used a tiny piece of tape to stand it up between the pages of “Under the Dome” by Stephen King. I used the off-camera flash to create the shadow by holding it behind the ring and pointing it towards the camera; it took about 30 tries to get the right shape, framing, and exposure. I added some clarity in Lightroom, and removed the tape in Photoshop.

I took my iPhone 3GS and used packing tape to tape it to the floor at an angle (which slightly distorted part of the outer shadow). I then turned all the lights in my room off and positioned a single desk lamp directly behind the phone to cast a shadow toward my camera. I used a small LED light to shine on the Apple Logo to reflect it onto the paper but it didn’t appear on the back of the phone (along with the writing all iPhones have) due to a lack of light. I took a number of pictures and this one turned out best.

I wanted to shoot something with shadows, but I also wanted to get some color in the shot. The subject is a one inch tall rubber dinosaur I bought at the Field museum. It’s sitting on my coffee table with a blue light behind a sheet of perforated aluminum. The second light source is a small mag lite with a magenta gel over it. I shot it with a Panasonic Lumix TS-1 in macro mode. I put the camera on an imitation gorilla pod.

I took this shot of a skeleton marionette I got in Mexico, during El Día de los Muertos. It’s hanging from a stool on top of wood flooring, with a light from a bright street lamp shining in through the shutters. I wanted to play with not only the existence of shadows, but shadows as a theme as well.

This was a multi-purpose photo, I took it to start off my 365 Days as well as incorporate the challenge of working with shadows. I used a Nikon D40 with a 35mm f/1.8 lens, 1/100 at f/5.0, ISO200 with the only lighting the wax lamp which at it’s centre contained a energy saving fluorescent bulb. Photograph shot while taking a drive through Al-Dhaid Road in U.A.E., sun was setting and the haze gave out a natural fade from gold to green in the sky and silhouette of the dunes in the distance, blurry foreground was intentional to give some sort of depth. Temperature and contrast adjusted in the camera.

Camera was a 7D at ISO 200, 44mm, f5.0, shutter speed 1/2500

Shot using a Nikon D5000 with the standard Nikkor 18-55mm VR kit lens. Unfortunately I do not remember the exact settings at the time! I had a few other viable options, but I feel that this submission is bit more unique and embodies the start of Spring.

This is a shot of the band “the xx” opening their show at the Big Ears Festival.

I used an iphone to take this cuz that is all I had with me. Instead of leaving the noise in the photo from the darkness I used a slight blur to smooth the image out a little.

for this collaboration shoot Dylan and I decided to portray a classic horror silhouette. We were inspired by the shower scene in the Hitchcock classic, Psycho. The flair of gore was added to make things a little more modern and exciting.

We used a Niko D50 with an 18-55mm lens. ISO 400, shutter 1/60, f/3.5

It looks like an atmospheric entry scene from a B-grade 1960’s sci-fi-on-acid flick, but it’s the shadow cast by a streetlamp through a stained-glass window. 6 second exposure at f4.5 and ISO1000 using a Canon T1i.

I thought the shadows cast by my caving headlamp looked pretty cool on this houseplant. To me it kinda makes it look like there are more plants than were actually present, and the neon blue color adds a sort of science-y jungle sort of vibe.

I made this picture last Friday, at the department of Computer Science, University of Pittsburgh.

I made it with a Canon, PowerShot SX110 IS camera. I chose to underexpose the shot one step to get more contrast between the black and white areas.

From all the pictures I made that day I selected this one because I found very interesting how the neon lamp is the only color in the shot, at the top of the stairs as if someone is inviting us to explore more.
