In typical Silo fashion, the series’ season three finale, “Troy,” raised just as many questions as it answered. The wait for the show’s fourth and final season is going to be a difficult one—but at least we know exactly how long we’ll have to endure, thanks to a new sneak peek video. The video contains massive spoilers, so if you haven’t had a chance to watch the season three finale yet, we suggest you don’t scroll past this paragraph. Season four, which was shot back-to-back with season three, premieres on July 9, 2027—and that’s all we’ll say above the spoiler warning.
Okay, we’ve got a lot to unpack here: in “Troy,” Silo season three‘s dual timelines—one set in the present, when everyone lives in underground silos, and one set hundreds of years in the past, before everyone lived in the silos—get much closer together. We find out that the residents of silo one are kept in a kind of cryosleep and woken up intermittently for “shifts.”
As a resident of silo one, Daniel (Ashley Zukerman), one of the main characters in the past timeline, is still alive and looking no worse for wear hundreds of years after the explosion at the end of episode nine. Except, when Victor (Matt Craven) wakes Daniel up to enlist him in helping to kill all the residents of silo 17, he’s calling Daniel “Troy,” which Daniel doesn’t seem to register as incorrect, and Daniel also doesn’t seem to have any memories of his past life, save for occasional flashes of a woman he can’t identify but who we know to be his nine-months-pregnant wife, Helen (Jessica Henwick).
We don’t see Helen in the season three finale, but we know that she was just outside of silo 18 when the bombs went off. If she made it into silo 18 in time, which doesn’t have the same cryo-sleep technology as silo one, she’d be long dead by the time Victor wakes Daniel up for the silo 17 massacre. But, maybe, her bloodline could have been carried on by their child—and hey, aren’t current silo 18 resident Juliette’s (Rebecca Ferguson) eyes just like Daniel’s?
In the sneak peek, we learn that Helen did, in fact, make it into silo 18, but not without a lot of protesting. She’s banging on the door, trying to get to Daniel in silo one. She doesn’t make it, of course, and we see her, along with the other residents of silo 18, going through an introduction to underground life. That’s one mystery solved—Helen and Daniel both survived, and Juliette is almost certainly Daniel’s descendant.
The video mostly focuses on silo 18 Sheriff Paul Billings (Chinaza Uche) giving a speech to all the residents explaining what’s been going on: there are dozens of other silos out there, all controlled by silo one. “They’re the reason we believe that the air outside will kill us. That’s a lie we’ve been told,” he says, which is interesting, because as of the end of season three, it sure seems like the air outside is, in fact, toxic. Maybe he knows something we don’t.
The purpose of Billings’ speech is clear: he’s rallying everyone for war. They’re taking the fight to silo one, and they’re finally going to get all the answers they’ve been looking for.
As for Juliette, the video ends on a bombshell: she encounters Daniel in a tunnel that doesn’t look like anything we’ve seen in silo 18 (or 17, for that matter). She points a gun at him and demands to know who he is. “I—I don’t know,” he replies.
Will Daniel be an ally as silo 18 rises up against silo one? We’ll find out when Silo season four premieres next year.
