Ian McKellan will reteam with his Gods and Monsters director Bill Condon for A Slight Trick of the Mind, in which McKellen will play the retired detective Sherlock Holmes. Based on a novel by Mitch Cullin, Holmes must solve his greatest mystery of his career without Watson, and with declining mental faculties.
Seeing as the last time these guys paired up they were both nominated for Academy Awards — McKellen for Best Actor, Condon for Best Adapted Screenplay — I’d say the movie likely will result in another slew of “Best” nominations for them. Or it’ll at least be good enough to wash the taste of those Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movies out of our mouth.
