Skype got a major makeover today with the beta release of version 3.0. The big new feature is browser extensions for IE and Firefox that let you embed SkypeOut links into web pages. This click-to-call functionality is targeted for e-commerce businesses, and prank callers perhaps. I wonder how well this will work with Skype-enabled handsets?
The re-designed toolbar, contacts and call tabs look much easier to use. And Skype also added moderated public chat features, which makes me all wistful for IRC.
