INMO AIR3 Smart Glasses have been recalled, according to a notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, after the company received 10 reports of the glasses overheating. The CPSC says people have reported a “burning sensation to the face and the left side of the ear,” and warns they pose a risk of serious injury or death.
“Consumers should stop using the recalled INMO Air3 Smart Glasses immediately and contact INMO for a free repair. The firm will assist users in updating the system to version V3.16 online,” the CPSC said in a news release.
The glasses were produced in China and sold on website like Amazon, Inmoxr, and Kickstarter from December 2025 to August 2026. The AI-assisted smart glasses sold for between $900 and $1,300, according to the CPSC.
Only about 1,643 pair of the glasses were sold in the U.S. and 120 in Canada. The company didn’t immediately respond to questions emailed Tuesday about the recall.
Smart glasses are a relatively new product category that’s picked up steam with the mainstream in recent years. About 4.2 million units were shipped globally in the first half of this year, according to research firm Omdia, with about 3.4 million of those sold by Meta. Most of those glasses were sold in the U.S. with China in a distant second.
The main complaint about smart glasses has been that they can be used for illicit recording of individuals out in public. And while that’s not illegal, it creates a sort of feeling that everyone is always spying on each other. The term “pervert glasses” has gained traction, especially since many manosphere influencers on social media will post videos from the glasses showing themselves hitting on women.
One infamous video shows a shirtless influencer in San Diego who was confronted for videotaping women without their knowledge or consent. The influencer, known on Instagram as “rizzzcam,” is reportedly Christopher John and ultimately walks away with his tail between his legs.
But putting the pervert glasses moniker aside, this appears to be the first proper recall of smart glasses in the U.S. If the product category continues to expand, as it seems likely to do, we’re likely to see more in the future.
The U.S. has seen spike in recalls since President Donald Trump took power again in 2025, mostly in food. But given the regulatory environment, and the sloppy nature in which companies can now operate, we can bet that things are going to get much worse from here on out.
