Apparently hackers have already figured out how to get around one of the security features of Microsoft’s new Smartphone OS that prevents anyone except the cellphone service provider (in this case, Orange) from installing new programs on the phone. The concern is that unapproved applications might inadvertently cripple the phone. Of course the fact that it also makes it easier to ensure that users have to pay for any new programs doesn’t hurt, right? The Inquirer is intent on making a big deal out of this, but really Microsoft should be cut some slack. There’s virtually no way to make it impossible to install new software on any computer, PDA, or cellphone and the fact that it took this long for hackers to figure it out is actually a little surprising.
