Sony’s VAIO PCG-FR415S is a middle- to low-end laptop with a bizarre mix of features. It has fairly sturdy insides, with a 2.8GHz P4 and a DVD burner, but stumbles with a 1024 by 768 display and a weak-kneed graphics chipset. That makes sense, because it’s a value laptop, until they toss in anachronisms like a parallel port and a floppy drive. The PCG-FR415S is probably a bit too value for most at this point, but if you’re clenching pennies, the slightly cheaper price might be worth giving up the ability to play games on a nice screen.
