Maybe putting a subway along the length of Cape Cod or Fire Island isn't the most practical idea in the world, but that hasn't stopped a team of speculative mapmakers from imagining how those transit lines might look.
The folks at Transit Authority Figures have been mapping imaginary subway systems across the Northeastern United States, from Bar Harbor, Maine, to the Maryland shore. As Geoff Manaugh at BLDGBLOG notes, while beach-faring tourists might delight in a Plymouth-to-Provincetown transit line, many of these imagined lines wouldn't exactly be practical to implement. Of course, maybe they come from a far-off future where all life exists underground. But if that's the case, why are people still visiting the beach?
