Rumors of an Amazon tablet—we’d say something like an über-Kindle—started all the way back in September. But with speculation sizzling that the device might ship later this year, the company’s apparently decided to start banging the hype drum.

In an interview with Consumer Reports, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said to “stay tuned” for news about a “multipurpose tablet device.” Which isn’t even really one of those classic non-denials so much as a full-on acknowledgement that yes, yes! It’s coming.
As for what that device might entail, well, we know what we think. But more importantly, Bezos made clear that it E-ink fans needn’t worry; there will always be a place for a dedicated reading device (read: Kindle as we know it) in Amazon’s lineup. [Consumer Reports]
