If we’ve said it before, we’ve said it, well, about three other times. But now, for the fourth time, Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II has been delayed. Originally scheduled for release in October 2025, then in 2026, and previously scheduled for release on October 1, 2027, the latest film starring the Caped Crusader will now be released on February 18, 2028, just under six years after the first film. This time, at least, Reeves released a little teaser to make the bad news go down easier.
Reeves is currently filming the long-awaited sequel, which stars Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Scarlett Johansson, and Sebastian Stan. And you just know that he knows fans would be bummed they’d have to wait another four months to see what he’s cooking. So, the release date news came with this very cool little teaser.
The good news this time, however, is that Reeves is finally filming. So Warner Bros.’ money is being spent, right now, as you read this. That means filming has to end, and the studios will want a return on that investment. The movie is coming no matter what. Previous delays were mostly due to Reeves not having finished his script yet. At that point in the process, the film could, hypothetically, just not happen. But now, it’s happening. It’s just coming a little later.
The release date shift also impacts another major upcoming movie. The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Samuel L. Jackson, has been moved almost a whole year, from November of this year to October 1, 2027. Much like Reeves, the move gives writer-director J.J. Abrams more time to work on post-production, which, in this case, might include 70mm IMAX prints.
So yes, it’s a bummer. But as always, if a filmmaker like Matt Reeves or J.J. Abrams is given an extra few months or a year or several years to make their movie better, it generally will be.
To recap, The Batman Part II is now coming out on February 18, 2028, not October 1, 2027. And The Great Beyond is coming out October 1, 2027, not November 13, 2026.
