Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition comes out today, which is a special version of XP designed to turn your PC into a digital home entertainment hub. CNET has a review of one of the first desktops to run the new OS, the HP Media Center PC. The HP MC PC could conceivably replace your TiVo, stereo, DVD player, and television. Doesn’t sound like anyone at CNET would actually recommend you do that, as they weren’t overly impressed with the MC PC. The specs are nice though, it has a 2.6GHz Pentium III processor, a 120GB hard drive, 512MB of RAM, a DVD+RW drive, slots for CompactFlash (Types I and II), SD/MMC, Sony Memory Stick, and SmartMedia. Also comes with a Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speaker system, an HP f70 17-inch LCD monitor, and of course, a remote control.
