The new, Thunderbolting MacBook Airs just killed the plastic MacBook, which has vanished from the Apple Store. Makes sense—with both costing a grand, who'd pick up a laptop Apple clearly stopped caring about? But we'll miss ye. [Apple]
This was a bad move. Apple needs a cheap, "normal" MacBook. Cheap and loaded up with an optical drive.
It's hard to convince people to switch to Mac. It's even harder to convince them to shell out over a grand just to get a MacBook with an optical drive.
Bad move, Apple.
Although, in an intelligent fashion, Apple announced this beside the release of a number of other hardware as well as Lion. This means the stock won't take a hit like it would if they had announced this on its own. Smart move there, but dumb move in the long run.
