Rejoice, Android-using newsies! The New York Times has finally released an official app for the Android Market. And it looks terrific.

The layout actually seems not all too different from the iPhone version: you're greeted with a list of articles and thumb images. You can swipe down on a section title to choose from the 28 available sections or browse using the menu button, and once you're in an article you can navigate to other stories by swiping right or left.

It's free, so go get it if you're rocking Android 2.0 or higher. Otherwise, go get a new phone. Then go get it. [Android Community via Twitter]
