Fans have waited 36 years and counting for a new, live-action Gremlins movie, so what’s another year? Gremlins 3 was originally dated for November 2027, but now it’ll be released on October 6, 2028. To ease the potential pain of the extended wait, Warner Bros. released an incredibly brief little teaser video. Check it out.

Yup, that’s Gizmo popping out of that backpack. What he and his friends have been up to for the past 40 years, we don’t know. What we do know is that Chris Columbus, who wrote the original movie, is directing this time from a script by Carl Ellsworth, Zach Lipovsky, and Adam B. Stein. Steven Spielberg and his team at Amblin are producing, but Joe Dante, who directed the first two films, is not involved.
Warner Bros. also shifted the release date of another genre film this week. Dynamic Duo, the part puppet, part animated DC Studios film about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, shifted back from June 30, 2028, to September 22, 2028. That moves it away from Paramount’s Call of Duty from director Peter Berg, which was also scheduled for June 30, 2028, right on the heels of Paramount purchasing of Warner Bros. in the coming weeks.
That slight move, a few months to avoid a showdown with your own studio, makes sense. The Gremlins one is a bit more upsetting because it’s so much longer, and we first heard about the film almost a year ago. Sure, that initial release date is already about a year away, and production hasn’t begun but come on, people. It’s been almost 40 years. Get your butts in gear!
At the end of the day, though, giving filmmakers more time to make sure their movie is better is always a good thing. And at Warner Bros. especially, there is no issue at all with delaying films that are not ready to be made. (*Cough* The Batman Part II *cough*.) Hopefully, with a little extra time, Chris Columbus can give Gremlins fans old and new something exciting in a little over two years.
