If the data source on a DVD is 480p, is it truly (I mean TRULY) doing anything other than moving the resolution up to 1080p, and if it is only changing the resolution, what is the point? Do people have TV’s that can only display 1080p?

If it really is improving the picture quality, why doesn’t someone have a device to take NTSC and upscale it nicely on an HD monitor? Yes, I have seen TV’s that claim to do this, and even 1080i DVD players, but upscale always looks like just a change of resolution, and not an improvement in quality.
I think I am just confused. Ignore me.

Microsoft Confirms iPod Competitor in Development
Actually, Microsoft already makes the software for some of the least-DRMed music player/phones on the market. You can buy a perfectly good pocket pc phone today, drop in a 4GB SD flash card and have all the non-DRM music you want. Listen to MP3s and Oggs, listen to non-DRM shoutcast radio stations over wifi, watch non-DRM Divx movies, and copy the files off the player onto any PC you want to using USB, wifi, etc. If you don’t like Microsoft’s media player, you can install all sort of free ones.

The difference is that nobody is selling them that way right now and drawing you a map that says “buy this product and it will do x.”

This is OK, but I like my invention even better: Peter Wall. You just walk in the bathroom and start pissing wildly everywhere LIKE A REAL MAN!!
