Admit it, ever since you learned that Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots and Decepticons crashed on Earth, you’ve secretly always wondered what a real-life, full-sized Transformer would look like. Good news, a company in Turkey wants to sell you one.
There’s a very good chance that Letvision has overestimated the demand for full-sized Transformers toys. But there’s certainly a billionaire or two out there who’d be happy to buy one of these for their kids.
At least the company built a fully working prototype called Letrons that transforms all by itself, and actually drives, via a remote control, when in its BMW vehicle mode. Is it as dynamic as the computer-generated Transformers in Michael Bay’s movies? Not at all. But it’s real.
There’s no word on how much one of these Transformers will set you back, or when you’ll actually be able to buy one. But apparently Letvision intends to sell an entire line of the life-sized toys which all transform from robots into various types of BMWs. The way they see it, if you’re gonna build a robot into a car, why not do it with some German style?
Is this whole thing a hoax? Quite possibly. But the video of Letrons driving around and then transforming looks real, particularly when you consider how painfully slow and jerky the transformation process is. And there’s other videos of it doing its thing, shot from different angles, that are just as convincing. So we’re inclined to believe the prototype is totally real, even if the company doesn’t end up getting these under Christmas trees by the holidays.
