This Tiny Toy Camera Is Your Deal of the Day

Although there are thousands of ways to add a film look to photos taken with rapidly improving smartphone cameras, they’ll never capture the accidental magic of a photograph taken with film in a toy camera. You might see light leaks or overexposure as errors, but a dedicated toy camera user sees those flukes as character. If you want to make your own happy accidents, you’ll probably get a camera reproduction from the Lomographic Society, which makes both film and reproductions of classic toy cameras.

Right now, Gilt is running a big sale on lots of Lomography stuff for the next two days. Gilt is frustrating: they used to be an “online sample sale,” where most of their stuff was priced competitively, but now they’re putting a lot of chaff in with the deals wheat. For instance, today, there’s a lot of “fashion” cameras — which are the normal medium format Diana cameras but with some garish graphics. Same functionality, but uglier and more expensive.

But there are still a few deals available. They’ve got the Diana Mini 110 for $34, which is $16 less than the normal price of $50. They’ve also got the Fisheye Baby 110 — which features a fisheye lens, duh — for $24. Mind you, there’s $8 in shipping, so these deals have a hidden cost, but they’re still the lowest price on the internet. [Gilt]

Also: these two tiny toy cameras take 110 film. Your local drugstore probably doesn’t carry it. Make the shipping fee go a little farther by picking up this color negative roll from Gilt, or Amazon also carries a bunch.
