One repeated bit of praise for the cartoon sci-fi platforming game series Ratchet & Clank was that they (almost) looked like animated movies that you could actually play. So it’s no surprise that when you take the franchise and turn it into a movie, it already looks pretty damn fun.
The irreverent series follows the young Lombax Ratchet (voiced by James Arnold Taylor) and his robot friend Clank as they join up with the less-than-heroic space hero Captain Quark on a galaxy-trotting adventure to stop the nefarious, err... Doctor Nefarious. Look, I said these games were irreverent. It’s that sort of irreverence, which is on full display in this new trailer.
They’re lighthearted scifi action fun, and the movie seems to be in a very similar vein, charting the early days of Ratchet and Clank’s friendship. The goofy humor is there, the voice actors from the game are there, the script was developed by the same writers who work on them... it basically is one of the Ratchet and Clank games, just without those pesky bits where you actually play it. Considering they’re usually pretty enjoyable games, let’s hope this turns out as well.
Ratchet and Clank will hit theaters April 29th, 2016.
