Wacom Ventures Into Phone Input

By

Reading time 1 minute

Wacom, pretty well known for their desktop-based tablet input solutions, appears to be branching out into other fields. The “W8002” IC is a chip to be inserted in mobile phones to add pen-based input capabilities to the screen. The sensor is apparently embedded behind the screen, enabling it to still keep “100 percent luminous light transmission.”

For some reason, the entire time I was reading this press release, I could only think of how this would help out mobile gaming. Maybe it’s because of the recent Nintendo DS news? I’m sure Wacom has some other applications in mind, though. It’s also pressure sensitive, which as far as I know (a.k.a not far), hasn’t been done on PDA or phone before.
