President Obama announced a plan to limit the sale of combat weapons and, hours later, those kinds of guns are out of stock in Wal-Mart "in five states, including Pennsylvania, Kansas and Alabama," says Bloomberg. God bless America.
Wal-Mart says it has no intention to stop the sale of "sporting rifles," the euphemism the gun industry uses to refer to military weapons designed from the ground up to kill as many people as possible as fast as possible. Meanwhile, companies like Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. have stopped sales of these kind of weapons, including the Bushmaster AR-15 used in the mass killing of kids in Newtown. Must be communists.
Incidentally, that weapon is now a bestseller all across the country. Apparently, every nice law-abiding citizen wants one, as a souvenir before Obama—another communist—bans it. Perhaps they want to take it out of the market so no crazy people can get their hands on it. That must be it. Too bad their efforts are in vain, as the company keeps producing it. As for the rest of you not buying these guns: you are a bunch of inconsiderate liberal jerks.
Thankfully, the world's biggest retailer is not having it. The company re-introduced guns in April 2011, after a period of limited availability. According to Bloomberg, "the move may have helped as U.S. Wal-Mart stores posted their first gain in same-store sales in more than two years in October 2011." So good for them. And too bad you missed the $50 off the Sig Sauer M400 from their last Black Friday sale. You can't rarely get such a beautiful killing machine for just $867. It's hard not to support a company trying to make a profit.
All of this is great! It shows nice people care. The only bad thing about this renewed interest in guns is that ammo prices are going up. If you go to Ebay, which thankfully offers no control whatsoever on who buys what, you can see it clearly, with a Glock magazine going for more than double its original price before the massacre. The Glock was the handgun used in shooting down all those little kids in Newtown, which must be great for hunting deer too. Likewise, the AR-15 almost sold out, going for up to $4,000.
Anyway people, Happy Holidays! [Bloomberg]
