This is a five-second video from 1919 showing Charles Godefroy flying his biplane through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris to commemorate the end of World War I.

Apparently, the French Air Force found the plan for them to march on foot in a parade as insulting, and a group of them decided that an aviator should thread the Arc de Triomphe-sized needle instead. The original pilot selected died in a practice flight, and Godefroy proceeded instead.

It was filmed, but the Commissioner of Police banned a film screening of the stunt. They were worried about glorifying it and having it be imitated.
