We could have had a Silver Surfer film scored by Paul McCartney

You may already know that a Silver Surfer film nearly got made in 1980, starring producer Lee Kramer’s girlfriend Olivia Newton-John. But did you know that Paul McCartney was approached to do the soundtrack, and was seriously interested?

McCartney, of course, is a comics fan who wrote a song about Magneto, Titanium Man and the Crimson Dynamo, and also met Jack Kirby. So it’s not surprising that he expressed interest in making this happen, according to Sean Howe, author of Marvel Comics: The Untold Story. But don’t take Howe’s word for it — here’s a letter from McCartney’s manager:
