The Captain Underpants books are among the most banned reading material in the world. They’re brilliantly subversive and weird, and a refreshingly dotty spin on superhero lore. And now, they’re becoming an animated movie, with Ed Helms as Captain Underpants himself.

According to The Wrap, Kevin Hart (Ride Along) and Thomas Middleditch (The Wolf of Wall Street) will voice the two main characters of the series, George and Harold, who love playing pranks and wreaking havoc. Ed Helms will play their dictatorial principal, Mr. Krupp, who gets hypnotized and turned into the superhero Captain Underpants. Jordan Peele will voice George and Harold’s nemesis Melvin, and Nick Kroll will play the evil Professor Poopypants.
And the whole thing is being directed by Rob Letterman, who helmed the underrated Monsters Vs. Aliens, with a script by Nick Stoller (The Muppets). Shine on, you underpants-wearing diamond. [The Wrap]
