
Remember the 4.1 million Dell battery recall? Well, these faulty batteries were made by Sony, meaning that Dell most likely was not the only laptop maker with unsafe batteries. Specifically, Apple, who had a similar battery exchange program for MacBook Pros sold from February to May of this year.
Channel News Asia says a spokeswoman from Apple said they were "looking into the issue", meaning that the trade-in program has a chance of being expanded to encompass more than just four months' worth of batteries. If anything develops with Apple or any other laptop vendor like Sony or HP, we'll let you know.

I had my MacBook Pro battery exchanged shortly before they announced an official recall. It hadn't caught fire — but what happened is that the battery went dead when approaching the ninties in the battery percentage. The computer turned off as if it had fully drain the battery. I haven't heard of any MacBook Pro batteries catching fire yet...
