Widow’s Bay caught fire for many reasons; its delightful characters and performances and its unconventional blend of scary horror and quirky hilarity rightfully gained plenty of attention. But the more audiences obsessed over the Apple TV show, even more of its strengths came into focus, especially all the carefully considered details that went into making the island feel like a lived-in place with real (monstrous) history.
A big part of creating the show’s unique atmosphere came courtesy of David Fleming’s soundtrack, and he just picked up an Emmy in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) category. So it’s perfect timing for Mutant to announce its Widow’s Bay vinyl soundtrack release, which you can get in both “collectors box set” and standard form. A CD version will also be available.
All three include artwork by David Seidman, who created the instantly iconic key art for the show. The idyllic island with its lighthouse, the happy couple in the boat… oh no, the skull in the water! They also include liner notes by Widow’s Bay creator Katie Dippold and composer Fleming.
If you’re a Widow’s Bay diehard, you will no doubt want to cough up the $100 for the box set (the standard is $45; the CD is $15). That’s because not only does one of the records come pressed specifically in “Sea Hag” blue, but the extras included are too cool to pass up.
Here’s what comes with the box set. You can see images in the gallery below: Your Turn 20-page book with dust cover; “Sunset Cocktails” invitation (don’t forget to RSVP!); a reproduction of the Widow’s Bay mayoral letterhead; a 25-card reproduction of the Run game that Mayor Tom Loftis finds in the haunted inn; a newsprint reproduction of the “Cannibalism in God’s House” article; and a “Don’t Say We Didn’t ‘Warren’ You” poster reproduction.
Basically the only thing that’s missing is a film reel instructing the finder on the ins and outs of human sacrifice, but we’ll let that slide.
The fourth record side in both the box set and standard editions features an etching; from the looks of these images, it’s a giant tooth, evoking another unsettling game Tom found in the inn. Here’s the track listing:
