You Wii fans out there who are worried about filling up the paltry 512MB of internal memory on your Wii with virtual console games and are opposed to SD cards for some reason, don't worry. While standard USB drives won't work on the Wii, it looks like there's an official Wii external storage device in the works.
In a press release, eSol, a Japanese company, announced that Nintendo has selected their file system and USB host stack for use in the Wii for "managing and transferring data and files with external media." Looks pretty clear to us. We'll keep ya all updated as to more details as soon as Nintendo decides to eek them out.
