Here’s a tidbit to make horror fans who have sworn off remakes reconsider for a hot second: Bloody Disgusting picked up the news that Jason’s mother, played in the original Friday the 13th by the inimitable Betsy Palmer, might be a character in the 13th Friday the 13th installment (touché!), due in 2015.

Originally reported on Brazilian site Omelete, the intel comes courtesy of an interview with producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, who told the site (as translated by Bloody Disgusting):

“Sex, drugs, always beautiful people dying, these things do not change. And we can develop more problematic relationship [Jason] with the mother,” they explain.

Of course, that could mean just about anything. Maybe a flashback, a la Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, to what were surely twisted times at Casa Voorhees? A story told from the cable-knit-loving, camp-counselor-killing Mommie Dearest’s point of view? Five seconds of lip service to the franchise’s past in a film that’s just as meh as the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot attempt?

Time will tell how things shape up at ol’ Camp Crystal Lake. Fortunately, there were some other, more concrete reveals buried in the interview: the new film will take place in the 1980s, and — for the love of Tom Savini! — will be rated R. Ki-ki-ki-ah-ah-ah to that!
