Woz: Apple Maps Has Problems, But They Aren't "That Severe"

ZDNET managed to chat to Steve Wozniak while he was speaking at an event in Sydney, Australia, and unsurprisingly they chatted to him about Apple's Maps. His verdict? Up-front, mixed—but not as negative as some.

As ever, Woz has been reading around what's been reported to get the lie of the land. According to ZDNET he explained that:

"I have been reading about the problems, and I don't know if they are that severe... Sometimes, there are a lot of complaints about one little thing people spot, but it's not that hard to deal with in life. I don't know yet about Maps - I'm a little worried about the navigation, but I've still got it covered with a bunch of other navigation apps."

Pragmatic! As you'd expect given his liking for Android devices, Woz was also quick to compare iPhone to other devices:

"I tried to navigate somewhere, and I couldn't get to where I wanted to by voice. So, I was a little disappointed, because I love navigation by voice with my Google phones, actually, since they always get it and are based on a better database."

All in, the message from Woz seems clear: Maps might not be perfect, but that in itself is hardly the end of the world. Whether you agree with that or not probably depends on how you use maps on your smartphone. [ZDNET]

Apple maps biggest problem is Google maps, Google has set the bar pretty high

people expect that level of quality now

Apple should have held off until its maps matched or was close to Google's

they were too eager to get away from Google maps

Apple and its map partners need to invest heavily in its maps, the way Google has

what's done is done, Apple needs to get Google maps back in the app store ASAP then people will be happier, and then start building its maps up to the same detail then i believe they will succeed
