If Yahya Abdul-Mateen II knows anything about season two of Wonder Man, he’s not saying. In fact, he says he hasn’t had any “creative conversations yet about season two. Like, zero.” Whether or not that’s true, we’ll never know, but the star does have thoughts on what he’d like to see explored when Wonder Man comes back and where things left off.

“As a fan, I really like the fact that they laid down this foundation of this character, that we know his quirks, that we know what type of anxieties he’s susceptible to, and we’ve got an idea of his character and some of his skills and his dreams,” Abdul-Mateen told Indiewire. “And what’s interesting to me is that we’ve watched him in pursuit of something. We got to see what he wanted. It’s an interesting idea to me to see what he’s going to do with it, because we all know the guy who is behind all of this…we knew you before you were a star. So this can go really good or this can go really bad.”

Season one of Wonder Man (spoilers follow) saw Abdul-Mateen’s character, Simon, become the star he always wanted to be after starring in the superhero film, “Wonder Man.” However, that happened at the expense of his co-star and best friend, Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley. Ultimately, Simon seemed to throw that all away by using his powers, and potentially exposing that he had them at all, to break Trevor out of prison.

So now, as Abdul-Mateen says, Simon has accomplished his dreams. He climbed the mountain top. And it’s really about how the character will deal with that.

“He’s smart, he’s crafty, he’s got a good heart, and we’ve seen him do something good with the fame. I want to know what fame looks like on Simon,” Abdul-Mateen said. “If he is a celebrity, I want to know what kind of celebrity he is. There’s a whole journey, but wherever we go, I’m glad that the people know him, that whenever they meet him again, they feel like they’ve already known him because of the way that we’ve introduced him in the first season.”

So season two will see Simon dealing with his newfound fame and the shocking decision he made within that. Which is, of course, obvious, but still exciting to think about.

Wonder Man season two is clearly a ways away, so maybe just go rewatch the first season while you wait.
