The answer to the age-old question, “Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you?” has had some surprising answers over the years, but this one might be the most unexpected yet: soon, the snack-loving, mystery-solving dog will appear in Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, the franchise’s first anime series—and it will air on Tubi, of all platforms.

Variety reports that longtime Scooby-Doo voice actors Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard will star in Yokoso Scooby-Doo! as the loveable Great Dane and his human best bud, Shaggy Rogers, respectively. (In addition to voicing Shaggy in many animated projects, Lillard also played Shaggy in the live-action films Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.) The official synopsis reads:

While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy unwittingly unleash hundreds of mythical monsters that are causing trouble across the country. With the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, along with new friends, a magical girl Yume and gadget whiz Takumi, the group embarks on an all-new mystery filled with monster chasing and fun chaos.

News of a Scooby-Doo anime series first broke in 2024. Back then, the project was called Go-Go Mystery Machine, and it was set up at Cartoon Network. Over the last two years, that project seems to have morphed into Yokoso Scooby-Doo! (Go-Go Mystery Machine and Yokoso Scooby-Doo! share similar plots and near-identical key art) and migrated over to Tubi. While Tubi has the North American rights to the series, Cartoon Network will air it internationally. Japanese anime studio OLM (Pokémon, The Apothecary Diaries) and Warner Bros. Animation are teaming up for the series.

No word yet on if the rest of the Mystery, Incorporated, gang will be traveling to Japan with Scooby and Shaggy, but it seems like Daphne, Velma, and Fred might be sitting this one out. There is currently no release date for Yokoso Scooby-Doo!.
