Zachary Quinto dropped a bomb: his Star Trek MMO cameo will be his last Trek experience, including movies, for two years at the least. But with Trek 2 set for a release in June 2012, does this mean no Spock?

In an interview with Wired Game Life about his work voice in the MMO cameo as a holographic doctor was the last bit of Trek he was doing for some time.

"I'm stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years - no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while," Quinto told Wired.com in a telephone interview. His planned absence from geekdom was a major motivation for doing the new game. "I did this game to make an investment in the fan base," the actor said.

Since Paramount has set the Star Trek release date for, June 29th, 2012, if Quinto sticks with this "two-years off" plan, he's going to be cutting heavily into Star Trek 2's filming time. Let's just hope this is just a poorly phrased statement and not sour grapes. We assume he just meant that he would be taking a break from Star Trek work until they need him for the sequel.

But Quinto isn't leaving our realm entirely, he's currently working on comics with his production company, Before the Door. Which will be making a few comics for Archaia.

UPDATE: Like we suspected, this quote was taken out of context. Here's the truth straight from Quinto's twitter and his blog.

i have been inundated with questions and confusion about a comment i made during an interview with wired - about the new atari star trek online game - in which i said i am stepping away from trek for the next two years. obviously i will be a part of any upcoming films... reprising my role as spock. what i meant was that in the meantime i won't be making any public appearances related to the franchise - or doing any more auxiliary projects pertaining to the trek universe. i will be focusing my efforts on other projects and preparing to shoot the next film - which will be released in june of 2012... two years from now. hence the no trek for two years remark. worry not trekkers. it was a misunderstanding of context. i am not spock. but i am spock. all at the same time.
