Asus M930W Smartphone Flips Out, Kills People, Has QWERTY

Asus already has a full stable of Windows Mobile phones, but this flip-open QWERTY-enabled candybar seems like one we can get behind. Not only does it have a screen underneath for typing (in addition to the outside screen), it's powered by a 520MHz CPU, has Tri-band GSM, 3G, 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM, not to mention Wi-fi and Bluetooth. As long as that keyboard underneath feels as good as it looks, this could be a killer communicator.

  • i don't like phones, really. there is a time and place for communication and it's not while driving. i understand the concept and applaud the science. but the weakest link is the human element. we are destroying ourselves. it's inevitable.

that said, i really like this phone. and i don't really like phones. but that's another story.

    happy holly jolly

    burl ives.

I like the look, but there appears to be a lost of wasted real estate on either side of the internal screen. I am not saying every inch has to be jammed with stickers or screen, but at least make it look like you intended to have that design layout, and didn't just run out of bigger screens.

  • @zenpoet: yeah, what's up with all that bezel?

maybe their going to make a whole line of portable electronics that look like the eee pc since it's selling so well...

  • I agree with the lost real estate comment. Other than that, this looks like a decent choice. I've been seriously impressed with Asus' offerings as of late but am I correct in saying that they're not available state-side? If so, what's the deal?

  • Looks like someone enV'd The Verizon's enV...

  • @zenpoet: I agree with you too. Loof like they could have put in some kind of speaker at least or something that would fill in the space over there somewhat. Ah well.

Does seem to look like a solid WM6 phone. Anyone got a price on this one? Would be fun to get and try out at least...

  • i was just talking about a phone like this for wm. i'm likely going to wait on the apple sdk and any possible androided phone in Feb-March but this is at the top of the list for wm phones.

  • Yeah, a bigger screen on the inside would have made it a killer Windows Mobile phone. I suspect the issue was more that WM6 doesn't have support for 800x352 (ala the E90), only 800x480. Unfortunately, that area of the phone doesn't look anything like 16:10. :( This is a tri-band phone, so it could be problematic for usage in the USA, too.

Eventually HTC will get it right, I think, but this is a good showing by Asus.

  • don't like:
    WM6
    Small Internal Screen

    do like 3g

  • @zenpoet: Yeah, Asus creates some killer stuff, but they do tend to like to short change the screens in favor of adding lots of extra plastic to the sides for some reason.

  • Ohhhhh, I think the Real Estate on either side gives the screen a nice frame. It is also a great place to stick your during those moments you need to stick it somewhere for a short time.

Too bad it is not Quad band. Does it have an expanded memory slot?

Maybe this will prompt HTC to develop a similar model with a larger screen, one of the great benefits of competition.

  • WANT!

  • Looks like an LG enV (first gen) on the inside...

Why such a shittily small screen? Otherwise it looks sweet. I like the integrated thumb pad, a pretty hefty processer (foe a phone) and of course a full keyboard.

  • That screen is much to small. Throw it in the garbage, please. As if to be a conical pertrusion.

  • Yet another in the enV, the Switchback, Wildcard series: Nice internal keyboard but itttybitty screen. These are the first-generation. and we should be moving towards the second soon: bigger internal screens that more wholly fill the 'inside'. Right now, that screen looks to be the exact same size as the outside screen.

Mind, the other stats are nice. It's... getting there.

  • whats with tri-band gsm???!!!
    seriously...
how can a high end phone not work globally??
    who would buy that

  • The EnV built with a decent OS!? Bring it on please ASAP...too bad I wont be able to use it with Verizon

  • Why does it look so much like the E95? Couldn't they make it look just a little more differnt?
