Skype on the PSP wasn't exactly a secret, but here are the details on the functionality (pretty much the same as Skype on a PC, without IM). You also need a Memory Stick Duo and headset. More here:

awsome, im getting a psp soon i think. i have just enough money for the silver one from gamestop, just wating for them to be in stock:(
Now...if the psp had built-in bluetooth...there would be no stoping this awesome service!
Sounds like the PSP should have came with Bluetooth.
Only works with the new "slim" psp version. wonder why that is ?
I gotta buy a psp now. I always use skype.
what about users of original (i.e. non-slim) PSPs?
I am not bad mouthing Skype and I am not downing the PSP's new add on but if I have unlimited phone from my cable company, a work paid for cell phone, then why would I need this?
@diacronic: The slim PSP has enhanced hardware (more RAM, etc.), although I can't imagine Skype taking much RAM...
Then again, I have a slim PSP, so I'm pumped! I was *this* close to buying one of those silly Linksys Wi-Fi phones.
Good thing I don't care too much, or I would be pissed that it won't work on my original psp.
It's not on the original PSP because, the internal flash is full, leaving no space for Skype, (I think)
Yeah I was pissed, but no one I know really uses skype.
Damn, I gotta find someone to buy my 1st gen PSP now. Every one I know uses Skype and there's free WiFi almost everywhere in downtown Vancouver (no I ain't jackin' anyone's signal :P).
erm... I know how I'm gonna hear people, but how will they hear me? Will I have to finally buy one of those ugly-as-sin headphone/mic combo things that hold onto each ear... barely?
Seriously... bluetooth would have been the way to go. And why not finally come out with a keyboard, Sony. Texting using that keyboard is already painfully slow.
I see more cons than pros with this addition to the PSP the more I think about it.
I just bought a wifi phone + skype in number (localized telephone number). As soon as I registered the number it was available for use. The voice quality is high , far better than Net2Phone and about as clear as leading VOIP services.
Disregarding the cost of the phone, it's only $6 a month for unlimited calls in the US. Including the Netgear WiFi phone, the first year costs about $222.. and later $72 a year as long as fees don't change.
Yet something else to make my Mylo even LESS worthy to tote around. Lol!
Wow, I almost wish I had friends to talk to.
IS THERE SOME SORT OF MICROPHONE IM NOT SEEING?
LOL
I don't give a rats ass what Sony says is "official".
Till I hear that the homebrew scene has incorporated into a new custom firmware, it might as well be vaporware.
Running a Sony firmware on the PSP would just make me feel *dirty* :)
is it just me or is the SKYPELINE local number just a amazing way for some scammmmmer in a far off land to screw with people by faking a local number, making it easier to plot his evil ideas and schemes.
